Frequently asked questions

How do I crop to a perfect square?

Choose the 1:1 preset from the aspect-ratio bar, then drag any corner. The selection stays square automatically. This is ideal for profile pictures, product thumbnails, and social media grids.

Will cropping reduce the image quality?

The crop itself removes pixels rather than resampling them, so the remaining area keeps full resolution. The file is re-encoded on export, so keep the quality setting high to preserve detail.

Can I crop several images the same way?

This page crops one image at a time so you can position the selection precisely for each photo. If you need the same dimensions across many files, resize them to a fixed size with the Resize Image tool instead.

Does cropping change the aspect ratio?

Yes — that is the main purpose. Cropping changes the ratio of width to height. If you want to change the size but keep the ratio, use the Resize Image tool instead.

Why is the output a different size than my screen selection?

The selection you see is scaled to fit your screen. The tool records the selection in the image’s real pixel coordinates and crops from the full-resolution original, so the exported file is as sharp as the source.

What happens to transparent areas after cropping?

If the source is a PNG, WebP, or AVIF, transparency is preserved in the cropped result. Exporting to JPEG flattens transparency onto a white background.
