Frequently asked questions

Why do my phone photos appear sideways?

Many phones store the sensor image plus an EXIF "Orientation" tag telling software how to display it. Some apps ignore that tag. Rotating the image and re-saving bakes the correct orientation into the pixels, so it looks right everywhere.

Does rotating lose quality?

Rotating by exact 90° increments is lossless at the pixel level — the same pixels are simply rearranged. Free-angle rotation resamples the pixels, so a very small amount of softness is possible, especially at low quality settings. Keep quality high (90%+) for free-angle work.

What happens to the empty corners?

When you rotate by a non-90° angle, the rectangular frame must grow to contain the tilted image. The new corners are filled with your chosen background color, or left transparent for PNG, WebP, and AVIF.

How do I straighten a crooked horizon?

Use the angle slider and nudge it a degree or two at a time until the horizon looks level in the preview, then download. Remember the premium original should be kept, since straightening resamples pixels.

Can I reset the rotation?

Yes. The reset button returns the angle to 0° and clears both flip directions. Your files are still loaded, so you can start over without adding them again.

What is the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the image around its center, changing which side is up. Flipping mirrors the image across an axis — useful for correcting reversed scans or creating a reflection effect.
